Worked with a lady for several years starting in 99...... At the time, her mother was just over 90 years old and still had it all together.... About 2003, I gave her a rooster and 4 hens that I was tired of fooling with. 2 hens were lost to a weasel within the first couple months. But the rooster and other 2 stuck with her and were pets. FF and ran across the lady's email address a few days ago and dropped a line. She said that her mother had died in January at 104 and still had the rooster and 2 hens that she spent several hours of her days with (not exactly sure how old they were). She lived with her mother so continued caring for them. She said that within 2 weeks or so, all had died.

Guess they were keeping each other going.....

Not unusual for a pet to die soon after a long time owners passing. Even saw one case where the dog disappeared, and was found starved to death lying on the owners grave several miles from where the owner lived. No one knew how the dog new where the grave was located. They are not really dumb animals after all.

I saw a bit on TV once where a fellow was flown in to a very remote airstrip in Canada, camped out, and spent several months studying a particular pack of wolves. He and the wolves got used to having each other around.

The morning the plane was to come to pick the guy up again, the wolves were gone. No sign of them at their usual spot.

When the plane took off, the entire pack was strung out across the end of the runway and watched the plane go over. You can ask all sorts of questions about that.

Then there was the guy who lived with bears geting to know them. Just when everything was going good the bears had him for dinner.Stan

i still say that was the funniest thing i ever heard on the news...goofy sob deserved it.

Don't know where that was, but saw a TV item about a chap who went to the Kamchatka Pen. [north of Japan] to chat with the wild bears,Didn't need his return ticket.
