Cockshutt 20 Tractor ( Deluxe ? )

I have purchased a cockshutt 20 deluxe, or i thought i did. I have recently sold it to a gentleman in Alberta, four months later prior to shipping, he in forms me that it is not a 20 deluxe and that he wants his money back. The tractor came to me painted, with the deluxe symbols and such already on the unit. Three point hitch, pto etc etc. How do i tell what it is ? I thought i bought a good tractor from a good man, rigth now i don't know who to believe. Does any one out there know how to tell the differnece ?

I believe the "deluxe" series started in 1956, which, according to the serial number section of this board, would be serial no. 20001 and up. Main difference, I think, was the paint job- all red previous, then cream and red for the deluxe. What is your serial number?

On the 20's there is a extra knuckle joint in the steering shaft to line things up a little better with the driver.

There are lots of guys out there trying to pass off deluxes by virtue of paint.

Thank you for the reply, I feel stupid on this, I have three 40's , a 35 L , four 30's , and this 20. I have some knowledge about all the others except this 20 . I can't seem to find the serial number, I can clearly see the ID tag which is brass on the motor, giving the rod , mains, and clyinder sizes, it even states ( Maritime tractor supply company ) Charlotown P.E.I . The only other number I can find is on the rigth side of the tractor, when sitting in the seat, just up from the oil pan in the casting of the engine, that # is F400A4220 . I have looked elsewhere but don't see any other serial number. But that number doesn't match with anything else that I can find on the web ? Your thoughts ? Thanks for your time in this.

any other differnces than the knuckle ? Mine has exhaust threw or up threw hood. Cream and red paint just like a deluxe. Three point hitch and pto . I truly assumed this was all right, I didn't think others had three point hitch , only deluxes ? I have found the ID tag on the motor giving the rod , mains and clyinder sizes, but where do i find the serial number to check that way ?
Thank you for your time in this.
Regards Jason

Can't help you any, as I know VERY little about them, just thought I'd post because I happened to see a 30? 40? sitting in the weeds wehn I was coming home from an auction today. Had (faded) red and cream paint.

Just a guess, but is the serial number stamped on the top of the frame on the right side of the tractor just like the 30?
