zenith carburator

I have a massey fergussen industrial 20 with a zenith carburator it is a perkins 3 cylinder engine. the problem is it will only run on full choke. the main jet needle is in a fixture beneath the carb bowl. can anyone tell me how that works, adjusted or what to heck.

Sounds like you need to check your gas flow from the tank and maybe clean out your carb. Choke on means not enough gas getting into the mix, usually.

If the main jet is part of a fuel shut off solenoid it would do like you see if the solenoid is bad or isn't connected to 12 volts with the ignition switch on. Those solenoids on Zeniths on Deere tractors tend to be about 7/8" diameter and a couple inches long with a spade lug off center at the end opposite the carburetor. The main jet adjustment for running is a small slotted screw in the center of that end. They do fail. Some would cut off the needle on the other end then run on the rich side all the time. Their purpose is to shut off fuel to reliably stop a hot engine from running on or dieseling.

They probably can be bought yet.

I hooked up a new wire from the solenoid to this small device on the bottom of the carburator, and when I tried starting it, the wire burned, it looked like this has happened before.I could not find a adjustment screw on this device. I have cleaned the carb and put a new kit in it. Anymore suggestions?
