Timing a McCormick-Deering 15-30 (22-36)

The Instruction Book tells me to find T.D.C. by turning the engine "...until D.C. mark on the flywheel and the pointer on the bell housing line up..."
The Overhauling manual says "...the words 'dead center' on the flywheel should be exactly underneath the small triangular pointer on the belt pulley carrier.
I have removed the belt pulley carrier cover but CANNOT find the triangular pointer. I have another 22-36 and I cannot find its pointer, either.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Remove No1 sparkplug near the radiator and hold your thumb over the plug hole and have someone crank over the engine until you feel pressure against your thumb. Once you feel pressure drop a long plastic straw on top of the piston then have them keep slowly cranking the engine as you watch the straw rise. When it quits rising you should be at TDC on the compression stroke. Both valves on that cylinder should be closed. Hal
