MF35-Perkins three-banger question

I just picked up a Massey Ferguson 35 with a Perkins diesel. I think it's the older indirect-injected 152. It is missing a manifold, but at a glance - can't say I fully understand what manifold it is?

Intake manifold is on the other side of the engine, not shown in the picture. On the side show, there are three open ports. Two other ports have an exhaust manifold. Is this engine supposed to have two exhaust manifolds with five exhaust ports on a three-cylinder engine?

MF35, tractor serial # SNW 242331. Perkins engine # 1969589 .
Has multi-power and power steering. 1962 vintage?

Your exhaust manifold is complete. You are missing combustion chamber caps. I do not know the purpose of the caps.

the three missing caps are from the combustion chamber, that version of the perkins had flat top pistons the later 152 in the 135 had the combustion chanber machined into the top of the piston, if you look into them you should be able to see the tip of the injector, there is only two exhaust ports on both versions of the 152.hope this helps, tom

Thanks for the replies that's good to know. Sounds like a similar design like my Allis Chalmers has with the Buda engine in my HD6. It is indirect injected also and has little covers over the precombustion chambers they called "energy cells."

I've worked on many Perkins in the past, but all were direct injected with the chambers in the piston tops. I've never seen one like this before - but never been around MF tractor much either.

I hope I can buy those caps easy since they are not with the tractor.
