About ten days ago, Kelly Services sent a fiftyish fellow to our office on a temp basis to do some simple clerical stuff that needed to be done.

Ever since he got here, he's complained about not being able to find a full time, permanent job. He did tell me once he had spent 12 years as an OTR truck driver. When he was whining again this morning about not being able to find a permanent job, I told him that with his experience he should be able to get a job driving a truck fairly easily. There's always a demand for drivers. He replied he really doesn't like driving a truck anymore.

I almost told him if he's hungry enough, he'll love it.

I also have little to no sympathy to that type. Things are turning around in my area. I"m hearing words like "overtime, Saturday & hire" again. Got more work for my truck than I can do.

Don't get me going on employee's. These young kids today have NO drive in them. I feel like I'm nothing more than a baby sitter. I've had one kid with me two days now, and I'm thinking of dumping him already. I say something about picking up his pace a little, yet no attempt what so ever.

I tend to keep people on way too long hoping they will change. I would give someone one talk, then dump them now.

Not sure about down there but up here private trucking is a fast road to bankruptcy when a contract ends suddenly. The margins are slim and your debt is high. The big trucking companies are more stable but you may as well work fast food for the pay and its darned rough on a family being away all the time.

And talking about not having the drive.....there are plenty of not-so-young people around who don't have the drive to work either. Paul
