Junk tractor #2 and kids enjoying it in NY

Been busy picking up all the junker-tractors I bought over the winter. Went at got #2 yesterday. A Massey Fergson 202 with loader and Continental gas engine. This one runs, so no mishaps getting it off the trailer.

But, if anybody reading this is from central New York - have you been on the Interstate 88 lately going towards Binghamton? Holy cow, it's falling apart. I was doing 70 MPH with the trailer behind and had to quickly slow down to 40 MPH and still felt like I might lose control. For a fairly new highway, it's amazing to see how it's falling apart. It's real bad right around the area where two complete tractor trailer trucks disappeared a few years back and both drivers got killed. My trailer-ball lock pin broke and that's the first time I've ever seen that happen.

Got it home and my youngest son and my grand-daughter were very interested. That is . . . until I started the engine. Then my grand-daughter ran and hid by the John Deere 300B backhoe. Parial to Deere maybe?

Funny with the two kids hanging out with each other. My 6 year old boy is "Uncle Louis" to his 3 year old niece (my grand-daughter).

Kids and tractors just seem to be drawn to each other. I've got a non-running (engine is gone) Farmall H parked in my backyard just for the grandkids. The youngest grandson has spent countless hours on that H and has probably raked more acres of hay than I have.

It looks like a nice unit. I remember seeing it in the photo ads. Is that the one that the previous owner said had spun a rod bearing, or am I mixing it up with something else?

Yes, that's the one. He had it sold but when the buyer came to get it, it started knocking. So, he refused it, I made a low offer and bought it.

It didn't knock at all here. I'll pull the pan and check all the bearings and wrist-pins, but I'm wondering if the knock is in the transmission somewhere. It's got some awful sounding bearings.

I recently had another Continental Z-134 apart that was knocking, and every rod-bushing had come loose. I don't think I'd ever seen that happen before. Not wear - I mean the entire bushing OD was moving in the rod-hole. And to my surprise, the rods were fine. New bushings fit tight.

Loader works fine and I bought cheap enough, so I'm not worried.

Well, it sounds like a good deal and I'm glad to hear it is running well for you. We have a loader that I think is similar to yours on an MF35 and it has done well for us. Looks like you already have equipment for the heavier jobs anyway, what with the backhoe in your picture. Thanks for telling the history.

Who said anything about no trailer brakes? Not me, that's for sure. I've got brakes on both axles and have a good controller.

Hey MAN,you need agooseneck! alot more steble and haul more weight(this means BIGGER tractors).keep hauling them home, good luck

I see you found a way to keep the steel building from blowing away again (chained to backhoe). Did you shovel the snow off them this winter or did they take all the heavy snow OK? It doesnt look like the snow would slide off as good due to the way they run the steel on the roof. Thanks for the pictures and good luck with the hauling chores.

I cleaned the snow off several times. At one point there was four feet of snow on top of them (I have two and both have changed locations on their own).

I saw them sagging and got nervous. Good thing. A friend of mine has an auto-repair shop down the road and he is an "authorized dealer" for those tin cans. They put up a demonstator model in front of his business. 28' wide and the HD model. He had his brand new Chevy truck parked in it. It totally collapsed, pushed in his roof and broke his windshield. And, his is not as wide as one of mine. Funny thing is, he never cleaned up the mess. It's still sitting in front of his shop in a heap. Kind of bad advertising.

With both, besides the chains, I also have wood planks on the ground that lay across the metal base of the tin-cans. I always have a truck or tractor parked on those planks to hold the buildings down. Some day, I'm going to have to really anchor them.

My wife and I took a ride around the rural backroads yesterday just before it snowed again. There are barns, buildings, and even a few houses that totally collapsed this winter. Most I've ever seen in one year.

I wondered how the car-ports would take the snow. There are several buildings around here that went down with the heavy snow , a couple fairly new ones and some older ones not well kept up.Seems like every time I go somewhere I notice more. I spent a lot of time shovelling our roofs after that last big snow at the end of Feb., I worried it would warm up and rain on all that snow and really make it heavy. That never happened, or I think you'd see even more damage.
