Stripped steering wheel nut and shaft splines on my old Satoh finally got the better of me yesterday.... that rascal has wobbled/ popped off for the last time.
I know it ain't right, but i have to confess- I whacked it on with a big ball pein and laid 3 fat tacks on it with the wire feed. Problem solved- until it has to come off.

That's when i'll thank God for 4" grinders

it may very well only hold for 40 years until it needs to come off - are you going to worry much about it then?

Welcome to the real world...

I'd bet that the 'new' parts to do it right are probably worth considerably more than the tractor is worth if they're even available.
Die grinder will clean the weld off down the road...

Hope you don't have power steering with a seal under that steering wheel. It's a strange sight to see oil flowing out of the steering column. I re-engineered my Mitsubishi with better seals. Been over a decade, must have done a decent job.

Have you tried Green Loctite? It will generally hold as good as a shrink fit, as long as there isn't too much gap. Also, make sure that it is absolutely free of any oil film.
Done properly, the only way it will come apart is by heating with a torch.
