O/T Price of oil

Wow, I see today that the price of oil has dropped $8 or so from what it was last week. Was in the mid-$80s, now the mid $70s.

Just my observations:
When the price goes up, they instantly tag it on at the gas pump.

When the price goes down, they take their good old sweet time changing the price.

When the price of went up from $83 to almost $86 a barrel, gasoline at the retail level went up 10 cents a gallon, from $2.85 to $2.95. Now that oil has dropped back to $77 a barrel, gasoline has also dropped...from $2.95 a gallon to $2.93.

Must take longer to get that cheaper oil refined and to the retailer than it does the expensive stuff. Seems like the expensive stuff gets to the retailer the same day they sell it on the world market, but the cheap stuff sometimes NEVER gets to the retailer.

Maybe they're just waiting for it to go back up again. You know, so they don't have to bother changing the signs.

The price of oil may be down, but the cost of deploying troups in sandy parts of the world remains fairly constant.

I saw on the news that oil prices had hit an 11 week low, and yet gas here went from $2.72 to $2.99. It changes so much with no rhyme or reason that around here the joke is, "Gas is up again; I guess that tanker truck in Texas had another flat tire"

So how does that apply to the cost of gasoline? I never saw an oil tax increase get approved by either Congress OR the state legislature. So the relationship you're trying to make between the price of gasoline and the cost of deploying troops isn't clear to me.

I remember when diesel used to be cheaper than gasoline. I can remember when my dad used white gas or distilate in his John Deere tractors. If I remember correctly, white gas was .15 and distilate was .10 a gal. Isn't diesel cheaper to make than gasoline?

Diesel fuel prices went up because after going ultra low sulfer our diesel fuel went on the world market. Other countries couldn"t use our fuel as long as it was low sulfer.

You need to look up what does make the cost of oil go up and there is a dollar a gallon protection charge. At least there was a couple years ago_Over a dollar a gallon, not a barrel, but we are still paying for the troops, the war,and plus a dollar a gallon protection charge.Nobody even looks at that kind of stuff.I put it on here before and they replyed that everybodys 401K depended on oil so who cares if its higher priced?

Plus we produce oil,we are number 4 in the world, but we import it from Saudi Arabia and other places, and ship our oil to Japan or somewhere. So the whole thing is a scam. Its not tied to supply and demand at all.Speculators using Big Bank money run the price up and down all the time now.So that 77 or 87 dollar oil is really worth less than 30 dollars a barrel, but speculators have it high so BP can sell us high dollar Canadian oil sands oil at a profit because it costs a lot to refine. We have the same stuff in Utah or someplace, but here we are buying this high dollar crap oil when we have better oil thats cheaper to refine.

All you need to do is spend a day looking stuff up about oil companys. It will make you mad.
I seem to vaguely remember that dollar a gallon protection charge went to Haliburton,or some big company like them,KBR maybe.

Gas in NW Wisconsin dropped $0.05/ gallon today and is now at $2.999-
If the problems in Europe are not stabilized and England can't form a government to deal with its debt watch oil prices plummet!
Then we will see a really deep recession.

A dollar a gallon oil "protection charge"??? CITE YOUR SOURCE. I did a search for "oil protection fee" and the ONLY reference that came up was a COASTAL protection fee, charged by the State of Texas, on oil shipped into or from Texas ports...and the Texas tax was .13333 cents [yes, that's LESS than one cent] per BARREL [42 US gallons]. So the tax would amount to about a PENNY on every 7-1/2 BARRELS...or a penny on every 315 gallons of crude...and if the oil was transported within or out of Texas via truck or pipeline, there would be NO outgoing tax, only incoming. [Under certain circumstances, the state has the option to raise the tax to 4 cents PER BARREL, if their environmental fund is nearly depleted]. That's certainly NOTHING like a DOLLAR a GALLON...so CITE YOUR SOURCE!!!

Here's MY source:
Texas Coastal Protection Fee on Oil

Down south I see they have more than they can handle, just wait for a little while then you will pay for that.Rumour has it that Exxon is their consultant.

You have just increased the fee by 0.000003. I would suggest it could have been better stated as 0.01333 seeing it can be raised to 0.04
