Mags wont fire

Got a mag on an H Farmall and one on a CC Case that arent fireing. I know my mag man puts them on a motor and in 30 secs they off and fireing, But I cant afford to take them to him. Any ideas? Ive never entered the backside of a mag cap before.

Just trailered home an Allis B yesterday that hadn't been run in 3 years. Never messed with a multi cyl mag before. Pulled off the cap to clean because it wouldn't spark a grounded plug and was surprised to see a gear that needed timed. Cleaned up the connections inside, removed valve cover and brought #1 cyl up to TDC of igniton stroke and pointed rotor at #1. Maybe it was dumb luck but she fired right up afterwards.

I would not file them. but take some real fine sand paper and make them shine. make sure gap is correct, if it still does not fire it could be the condenser. If you have a kill wire from the mag disconnect it.

The H has set for a good month waiting for the brakes to be rebanded. Im on SS so I had to wait to get the money to do it. The CC has set about as long. The carb got bad so I took it to have it rebuilt. Rebuilding it and the carb on a Cub took awhile. The Cub has set around 2 weeks. I got it running, but it dont sound like its fireing on all 4. I dont know if its in the mag, or if the carb isnt set right

DON"T use sand paper on mag points. You will have problems. Use an ignition file they only cost about three dollars. They will leave no residue behind on the point surfaces.
Your mag more than likely just need the points and rotor button cleaned. You should be able to do that. That way your budget is helped.

Also USE CLEAR ACRYLIC TOP COAT PAINT to seal your old gray mag caps. The cap WILL change to shiny black like new when you do this.
