That wheel idea on back of pick-up!!!

Just returned from Ohio. Picked up slide in camper. While back I posted about putting camper on trailer for hopefull Canadian trip later in summer. Here the situation, I have 93 1/2 ton chev with long ber ext cab, also new GMC 1/2 ton extended with regular 6 1/2 foot bed. Don't really think a trip likr that is good ides with 17 rear old truck with well over 200k miles. Thought of camper on good trailer. In getting slide in home this afternoon, measuring camper is 8foot 4 inches with cabover bed. Setting in yard with coffee cup in hand looking at camper and truck and thinking---yes I know that's usually a bad combination__I said to myself--- Self, why not made a spring loaded single wheel swivel mounted Heavy wheel 10 12 ply 8 to 10 inch diameter attached to heavy 2 inch stock which will mount in reciever hitch on new truck????????? THis should carry 5 to 7 cwt adjust as needed with tension springs as like old baler tension springs. This should keep head lights from shinng on moon even out the load as the weight is not too heavey just wheel base is a little short. Should I try this idea I would HAVE to mount a pulley and alternator which could be easily attached and make sure I drive around the part of Canadian nuke lpand where buickand deere works!!!!!!!!! This pulley and alternator would have to be easily instaled and removealble so RCMP would nor lock me up!! Ok the alternator is a joke buttttttttttttttttt ( thats for John T) the spring tension swivel wheel about 18-20 inches behind bumper and still under the camper is real. Also on this trip I would like to meet with OTHER Tri- Directional owners. sincerely Wilson alis Samuell L Bontregger

Thats a long way from your main axle to the helper tire, you"re gonna want a lot of travel on it.

Just pop it on a gooseneck like everyone else does.

As soon as I seen the title about hanging a wheel out back. It was the tip to race through the post and see if Teddy52 over unity generator was involved.
It's the OPP in Ontario but worry about them unless they are on a Tim Horton's sugar rush.

Sounds like a good idea to me. There isn't any point in not looking like you just drove up from Arkansas if you can look like it. .........

i would vote against the wobble wheel idea -because that is what they can do--- and i mean wobble -- once it starts it wont quit till you get down to 10 or 20 mph-- plus the more you lift with it the more top heavy every thing gets and your center of gravity changes for the worse- i vote for a small cheater axle with two tires and two springs--dont want to bust anyones bubble but i have seen it and not good--just my thoughts

hoping if health permits to pass through glacier park north east of rockies cross over down west side also visit friends in montana, wyoming and catch colorado rockie mt national park Also want to see Trost collection near cut bank. Just joking about eastern Canada and agraviatin buickanddeere

Neighbor Wilson, When I go to Florida Flywheelers each winter I get to observe all sorts of home made camping rigs and when I see a truck camper mounted flat on a flat trailer (bumper or fifth wheel towed) I reallyyyyyyyyyy get excited. They often store a generator or else extra water tanks or a four wheeler or no tellin what on the front of the trailer under where the truck camper fits over the truck cab and maybe a golf cart etc on the back of the trailer. Its just appeals to me.

Now, I dont think any sort of single crazy wheel or wobble wheel will work out towed behind a pickup using the rear reese hitch. Im afraid theres too much side to side force and she may not track well BUT give her a try what do I know??????????? Im an electrical guy NOT mechanical

Sure, you can attach n rig an alternator to the towed wheel to create energy buttttttttttt (except for our friend Teddy52food) we know the energy required to turn that alternator is greater the energy it can produce due to friction heat losses i.e. the less then 100% alternator efficiency sooooooooo you gain NOTHING AND ACTUALLY LOOSE

Best wishes, if you build it call me I wanna see it and kibitz

PS My best LP Gas price so far is $1.59 for my summer fill
