O.T. Kawasaki Bayou 300 Excessive Crankcase Pressure

An oil leak started recently from crankcase seal. I Noticed a spray of oil coming out. When I open the oil filler cap with engine idling the pressure is unbelievable and then of course the leak stops. No way should it have this much crankcase pressure. The case vent tube is clear. Can it be anything but the rings? It is not using any oil and doesn't smoke.

If it were the rings you would either be burning oil or have low compression or both. I would double check the crankcase vent. I know that in a normal 4 stroke engine, when you take the oil filler cap off you get a lot of oil coming out at high speed! Maybe it's as simple as a bad seal and of course reducing crankcase pressure will slow it down.

I would pull far end of the vent tube and get it in a position to listen to it. Then pressurize the CC with a rubber plug and put like 20 PSI of air pressure in it. (hand pump!) Jim
