Help!! Looking for a replacement carb

Hi guys,

I have a small block Chevy engine (from a 750 Massey gas combine) that previously had a Zenith/Stromberg WWZ 2 barrel carb. on it. The carb is in bad shape, and so is the combine.. But I have devised another use for the engine.. and would like to replace the carb with something a little more modern, as opposed to sending this carb out and sinking a boatload of money on it.

I have already googled it (every possible way I can think to boot) and can't seem to find anything that helps. I don't mind buying new through NAPA or the like, but if I knew what might replace it would be a big big help.

The mounting stud spacing appear to be approx. 2"x3 1/4" (center to center) Which don't seem to be the same as other 2 barrel Chevy carbs (compared to a carb off of a friend's derby car engine)

Seems like the f-800 I had once upon a time had a Holley of some sort on it with what I believe was this spacing, but the truck is gone, and I never did actually measure the mounting on it to know for sure. Would maybe something off a old Chevy stake truck be same mounting pattern?

I'd just go to a junkyard and get an intake and carburetor. They are very plentiful for SBC engines. I've got a good stock 4 bbl one laying around somewhere.

Research the basic engine, find out what else it
was used on...then go look for a Carb.

If you haven't already tried a couple of the Chevvy car forums, they should be able to advise what'll fit and work. Good luck.

Chevy used three basic two barrel carbs, one for the 265 through 327's, one for the 350, and one for the 400. There are several ways to get the carb you need, one is to take the gasket off of the carb base and use it to match the bolt pattern and hole size, another is to remove the coil and look under this to get the date casting number off the intake, this will at least get you started in the right direction. If you have the engine out where you can get to the bell housing, there are casting numbers there which will tell you what the standardized cubic inches og the block is ie, 283,307, 327, 350, 400. There is also a pad on the pass side of the engine where the water pump meets the block. it should have a 6 to 8 letter/number combination beginning with a "T", of the ending letters have 2 letters, it is a pre 70 engine, if three, after 70 engine. This should get you started. If non of this works, look around for an edlecrock performer 4 barrel intake, (they can be had for $50 of you look) and just about any 4 barrel carb will work on it.

(One thing you should be informed about is that GM made some industrial engines that look like a chevy small block, they were a 265, but not the same as the 265 that came in the 55 chevy. The Bore and stroke of these engines were backward to the 55 265, if you run into this due to its original application.)

I know that the engine is a 350 w/4 bolt mains.. I just paid a lot of money having all the heads done and all that fun stuff. The motor is totally redone (about 2 hours running time on it right now)

Changing the intake would probably be the easiest, but, for what I'm going to do, I plan to keep the motor governed to about 2500 rpms, just like it is now, so going to a 4 barrel would possibly complicate this more.

The measurements I give before 2x3 1/4 is measuring the carb mounting gasket.

I'll look into the numbers, but i will dare to bet I need one like the 327's would have.. as it seems the 510 Massey with both the 327 and 350 and the 750 with the 350 all use the same carb to intake gasket.. According to the parts books.
