Hi Guys,

Just a picture I took yesterday while clearing the rainwater off the tarp.

Anyone ever lay one of them beet trucks on its side while tipping it?

Seems it would be easy to do if the dump doors didn't get opened like they should.

Also explain why they had to dump off the side instead of out the back.

Is that where that extra hoist was from?

Your dumping woes are worse than ours.... Ouch.

Such a nice sharp truck too.

These old beet boxes originated back in the days before trucks even had hydraulics.

The frame of the box is built on a scissor arrangement, which can dump to either side, lifted via a set of heavy hooks above each tire.

The dumping pits back in the day would use two lines, one dumping left and one emptying right. They had a cable lift to grab and lift those hooks. Lots of bulk and tonnage and by opening/lifting the whole side of the truck, the load could be dumped in the blink of an eye.

Never heard of one coming over, but yeah, don't think you would wanna lift 'er without yanking the side chains first. :>)

This old truck was set up originally with three sets of hydraulics; side dump for beets, rear dump for grains and the hydraulic over electric to drop and close the sides.

It's an antique, but it does get 'er done. :>)

Yeah,

Got an inch a couple of nights ago, which flat shut down the wheat harvest.

I finally got done yesterday afternoon.

Allan the first time I saw a beet truck dump was when I was hauling wheat to a small elevator south of Sterling Co. He was ahead of me at the pit and when the side of the bed came up my heart about jumped into my mouth. This Iowa farmer didn't know there was such a thing as a side dump straight truck until then. No,

The hoist I was gonna give you is straight off of a wagon running gear. Probably a 12-15 ton unit.

Seems to me that I still owe you fer some hauling of combine parts. You're the same feller aren't ya?

Allan

Never heard of a side dump going over, but my Aunt put a rear dump over backwards into the silage pit once... Don"t remember the exact circumstances, but the rear door got unlatched but not unchained... Luckily nobody was in the truck or the pit below when it went...
