MM ZAU Oil Pressure

Hi - I have a ZAU that runs really good but it shows no oil pressure. I bought the tractor knowing the gauge was rusted out and the oil pressure was suspect. But it ran so good I figured it was worth the risk.

I replaced the oil guage with a new one and still no pressure. I adjusted the screw on the side of the oil pump housing and it makes no difference. I also changed the oil and filter. Sometimes when I start it the pressure comes up some and then drops off. I verified the oiol guage line is clear.

The only thing I can figure out is the oil pump gears are shot. Does that make sense? I know where I can get a used set of gears off an old parts tractor so I was thing of doing that next.

It still runs good but I afraid to keep running it. Any ideas? Is there something else I need to check?

Just a thought. Have you disconnected the line at the gauge to see if it getting oil to the gauge. I changed a gauge on my old 1940 JD B and it appeared not to be getting any oil pressure with the new gauge. I put the old one back on and it was fine. I was told that copy cat gauges give faulty readings. I have a good generic gauge that would sell if you are interested.
 

I made sure the gauge line was clear and I also disconnected the gauge line from the block while the engine was running and hardly anything came out. I have two good gauges now so thanks for the offer. Ben
 
I would be willing to bet that the screen that covers the oil pump in the oil pan is clogged up. My unlce bought a z that had poor oil pressure, messed with the gauge, oil line, pressure gauge, all didnt help. Then he pulled the side plate off so he could get to the screen and it was caked solid with dirt, he cleaned it put back together now has more oil pressure than he knows what to do with.

I would start with the screen.
