FINISH MOWER INSIGHTS

Before I buy a finish mower I would request any advice from such people as yourselves. I think my choice will be the Woods PRD 7200. It will be used behind my MF 231S and to cut about 10 acres per month. the fields in past were cut with my Hardee 5 ft buhs hog but now the grass is nice enough for a finish mower. Landpride also seems to be a good mower. any suggestions or experience with finish mowers is appreciated. thanks for your time.

I have a Farm King 85" that has been a real good mower for years.
If you get a wide one it may scalp high spots worse than a smaller one.

Hey Allen,

I use a 6 foot King Kutter rear discharge finish mower pulled behind my 1972 Ford 3000 to mow about 3 acres every week in Ohio. They are USA made in Ohio and also come in a 7 foot model. Easy to work on and parts can be found at your local TSC. No issues in 5 years of mowing (Except the usual - Belt, blades, maint).

i have a woods rm600, its a side discharge. its been a real good mower, but i would prefer a rear discharge on my next one.

hey allen, bought a new woods prd7200 last year to use behind my kubota L3240. great mower, rear discharge, quiet and smooth with no problems on about 150 hrs. of operaton. one dislike, adjusting the height of cut is not difficult but time consuming.

Woods has been building finish mowers for a very long time. I think they pretty much know how to do it. You won't go wrong with the Woods.

I have mowed witha woods L59 belly mower under my Allis Chalmers B for over ten years and just had the first bearing get noisy. I took it down and am replacing all the bearings and painting every thing. The have taper bearings like wheel bearings. The bearings didn't look all that bad.

I mow 3 acres at home most weeks and mulch a 4 acre hay field a coupla times each year. I also haul it up to the factory and mow 4 avres around the buildings several times a year. Purty tuff unit. It does not do as good of a job as my 5 foot Simplicity mower I used for 15 years under a Simplicity 9523 same as an Allis 5020. I just like showing off my Allis Chalmers B.

I don't remember the exact model number I have, but its about a 5 year old woods 6 foot finish mower, rear discharge. I have been using it weekly this year (just bought it this spring) and haven't had any complaints. It pulls well with my Massey Ferguson TO-35 and the rear discharge is almost a must have for convenience to avoid odd windrows.

I have a Landpride 72 inch rear discharge and couldn't be happier after 8 years of use.

I had both. The Landpride first. Side discharge, wind rowed terribly even with deflector tied up! Seemed to work the tractor to. Traded it for the Woods RD7200. Woods was actually cheaper and twice the mower as far as noise, vibration, etc. Took less HP, which ment less gas! Wind row was non-exsistant! Pulled both mowers with a Ford 640(32hp).

I have had a side discharge and a rear discharge mower. The side discharge leaves windrows like the other post said. The rear discharge distrubute clippings more evenly. The important thing is to get one with thick deck material. The extra weight adds stability and keeps vibration down. Either of the ones you mention should give good service.

Allen ..I have to tell you right up front I am a KUBOTA dealer that hs Land Pride in one store and Woods in the other. All said about woods being around a long time and a good product I can stell you from a dealer stanpoint I see less comebacks with the Land Pride. Probably sell 60 + units a year and the rear discharge Land Pride is hard to beat. Dedpending on what part f the country freight might make one cheaper than the other, but both leave the factory at about the same price..

I have a 6 ft woods belly mower on an IH C and a 6 ft rear woods on a Jubilee. The belly mower sends the clippings out the back and sides. The rear concentrates the clippings out the right side. Had to mow the tall grass twice today to get rid of the clippings with the rear woods. If you are only going to mow once a month, that might be something to consider.

The blades on the rear mower spins much faster than the belly mower. Might have more to do with the tractor than the mower.

When you mow around anything with a rear mower, turning left and causes the mower to go right. The belly mower is better for mowing around trees..less trim work.

I have a 6' Sicma made in Italy. I looked at Farmking, Landpride, MF and a bunch of others. They were all like a rectangular box with blades underneath. Lots of square corners for cuttings to get caught in and plug up the mower. The Sicma was not only a little cheaper, it has a formed steel deck and no square edges or corners for grass to get hung up on. Rear discharge is the best way to go. A flail mower is another option but will cost more. Dave

Landpride Air Tunnel ---90 inch--- side discharge --- 18 years old and going strong. Pull w/ 36 hp diesel.

I use a Landpride FDR2572 rear discharge finishing mower. Very impressed with the quality and toughness of this mower. In the past 10 years the only thing I have had to do is sharpen blades and replace one belt. I bought a set of the Gator mulching blades this past year and really like the way they work.
