My old window shaker bit the dust. About 20 years old. Anybody have recommendations about another unit. Central is out of the question. Thanks. It's gonna be hot again. Need about 12000 btu. More about quality and reliability than price. Probably have to be import. Is there anything else. Thanks to all and have a great day that the Lord has made. Dave
 
We have two. In one bedroom is a Goldstar that is 8 years old, and it runs very quiet and does a great job of cooling. In another bedroom we have a Continental that is 2 years old and louder than heck and doesn't cool nearly as well as the Goldstar. I bought both units at a local chain hardware store.
 

Yep - we just put a split system in a server room at work which generates a lot of heat - and it is SUPER!

It is whisper quiet - and tons of capacity. It really cools the room down nice...

I agree with the others about using a mini-split system if you can. The heat pump has better efficiency and will save you dollars over time.

The outside unit of the one I have been around is so quiet you almost have to put your hand on it to know for sure that it is running.
 
Split systems are the best. You can mount it on a wall and get your window back. You can also mount other inside units in various rooms with just one outside unit.

The only drawback is they don"t have heat, but it sounds like heating is not a problem in your case.
