How was your weekend???

Had a scary moment when my tractor wheel came right off. That's a new one for me. I'll be checking those lugs a little closer from now on. I feel very fortunate to escape without injury.

Just looks sprung in the picture, or are they supposed to flex like that?

Can't help but notice how it blends in with the grass though, even the wheels kinda match the yellowing grass.
Think I'd be trading that thing for something red, or at least paint it red

Son had same thing happen to him on a JD B,
wheel just slid off axle. Jacked it up, slid wheel back on, bolted it on a little tighter, and away he went. Landed on the drawbar framework, and no damage done, other than dent in the hood. No fenders on tractor to get bent. And this happened after we had fought to get wheels to move on axle. They were FROZEN with rust! Would have thought it would been harder on this tractor however - B just has splined axle.

Glad you are all right.I had the axle pull out of the final drive on my JD 5020 a few years ago. The tractor just stopped moving. Things sure happen quick don't they? Stan

Glad to hear that you"re OK.

Nice looking tractor even with a wheel flat on the ground.

Thanks for sharing your photo with us; we"ll all be checking the lug nuts from now on.

Similar thing happened to me several years ago. We had discked up a part of the hayfield and I was using the tire drag with my 1948 JD A to smooth it.

Tractor quit moving and made a "thunking" noise. Got a sick feeling in my stomach and thought the tranny had gone. Pulled the clutch, reshifted and no forward motion and more noise.

Started looking around and the left wheel had worked its way off and the axle was just barely resting on the lip of the rim just below where the "donut" goes.

I shut the tractor down, got off very carefully, walked back to the house and got James. We got the jack, blocks, etc. and put the wheel back on.

Like you, we learned to keep an eye on those wheels.
