with the 9n tractor key switch in the off position after running the tractor the amp meter reads -10 and there is nothing on to drain the battery. new generator and cutout relay

Did you remember to polarize the Generator and relay?
If the cutout is stuck as Bob suggested (likely the problem I agree), if you were to remove the gennys belt it would spin. Also if you remove the BAT wire (or either for that matter) on the cutout and the discharge quits, again the cutout is stuck/burned/closed........Its supposed to open at shutdown or low RPM so the battery cant reverse discharge via the genny you see.

There is no polarization of the "relay". Cutout relays do not need to be polarized. Jim

i did polarize the gen and i find it disturbing that a new cutout that i had just put on would be bad.

Welcome to the modern world....... Monday mornings, friday afternoons, and the last 2 hours of anyone in production's shift should be used for cleanup, packing, and area maintenance only.

any plans on constructing your own solid state cutout circuit. i have heard that you can use a bridge rectifier diode to replace the mechanical cutout . anyone have plans for this solid state cutout.
