do you remember a perfect year?

I remember once back in the 60's where my parents had the most bountiful year ever. Still didn't end up really making any money but boy did we have massive amounts of tomatoes, peppers and other stuff to haul to market. Had to borrow trucks to get it all there in less trips.
Can't remember how the weather was but I know everything grew like crazy!

Yes,it was back in the 80s,but I don't recall just exactly what year. It was dry as a popcorn f@rt in just the next county south of here, but we had an inch of rain every 9 days just as regular as clockwork all summer. You could write it on the calendar before it even happened.

Sorry, Larry can't help you out there. I'm a Cub Fan! Maybe billonthefarm will chime in.

Dad always said a normal year is just the average of 10 abnormal ones. Never saw a perfect year, probably never will.

1981 was about as near perfect here as it gets. Good spring rains, dried out mid May and stayed dry through June. Then a regular inch or two a week until fall with a dry fall. Best tobacco we ever had and a good hay year too.

In 1992 we where living on my in-laws farm in southern Ohio. It rained just about an inch each week not too much but just enough. You could not have irrigated for better crops. We had second crop timothy that was yielding a hundred small squares an acre. Had several fields of corn go over two hundred, that was fifty bushels better than normal there. Had two tomato plants that gave more than we could eat.
We lived there for four years helping out because my father-in-law was very ill before he passed on. We never had another year that great. Back here in Iowa my brother was watching my place and it was too dry that year. Then in 1993 we had floods here in Iowa.
I think there are dry and wet areas every year. Just luck of the draw where you are.

1997-- We got plenty of rain and plenty of good sunny stretches. I made enough money selling hay to get my wife the diamond ring she deserved for our 25th anniversary.

I honestly can't recall any perfect years, though a few have come close. It has been a while since we've gotten close to perfect.

With 20/20 hindsight, though, I'd have to say that most of the years were not as bad/tough as they seemed at the time.

We didn't get a single flood here in 2009, so that's about as close to perfect as you can get lately.
