How often to change fluids on seldom used tractors

How often should one change engine oil, transmision oil and coolant on seldom used tractors? By seldom used; I mean less than 50 hours a year, some even less than 25.

I have some that as long as I find no water in the oils I have not changed in 3-5 years now. I do top off the coolant once a year or so just to make sure it is good for the winter and I do check the oil in them before and at some point when running them to be sure the oil is not milky

if you use.....

heavy duty diesel oils...

every 5 years or 300 hours, as the oil comes with additives to fight acid and moisture..

if you use a single weight, low end automotive oil,, every year.

Had my 966 overhauled 5 years ago.

Next spring, I'm gonna get that break-in oil out of it.

These marketing people would like to have ya changing oil every 15 minutes if they could. :>)

If I use it 50 or so hours, oil and filter gets changed every year. If around 25 hours I currently change every two years, but previously would change oil every year and filters every two years. Began to think that was overkill. Other tractors that run only an hour or so get changed at 5 or so years. Use 15W40 diesel oil in everything. Put new coolant, fluids and filters in every machine when purchased. Less than 500 hours on any machine since and haven't changed transmission or hydraulic oil but thinking about it on the larger tractors used more often. Test coolant and add the necessary conditioner every couple of years. Several tractors/combine have a coolant conditioner filter and I don't add conditioner intend to change filter at 200 or so hours.

I think the change interval could still be 200 to 300 hours but it's more important to run the engine long enough for it to fully warm up so you don't get condensation in the oil. I heard somewhere that even an engine in a dealer showroom should be run at least 20 minutes for the same reason. Dave

My sister had her honda accord repo'd last month. The original manual said to change oil every 10 thousand miles or 1 year, no exceptions. Take that to your quick oil change man.
