oT/ Building a pole barn

I am planning on building a 30x40 pole building and I am trying to decide whether to do it myself or to have a someone come in and put it up in a few days. The main builders in my area are Morton, Blitz and True Built. Do any of you have any experience with these companies. I could do the project but it would probably take me 6 months with my work schedule. Any thoughts appreciated.

I priced the materials to build one that size ten years ago. I then got a quote from a builder for building the same size one. $1800 more. It was the best $1800 I ever spent! It was done in four days.

Do not know the other two but Morton builds a first class bulding. Usually they do not have the lowest price but they do build a quality bulding.

Never used the companies you mentioned. I had a company out of Michigan build a 30x40x10 ft pole barn. It took 4 days for 5 men to put it together. Labor charge was around $2750. I had the land leveled before they began work. Had another guy do the floor. I did the electrical. The older I get, the more I like to watch the pros work. My back doesn't hurt so much too.

The pic is before I got the concrete down.

30x40x10 is a popular size that a lot of the builders erect, and in many cases is their low cost leader.
I"ve had two built, one in the St. Louis area, and another in northeast Arkansas.
I had the ceiling insulated in the St.Louis barn, and the concrete floor stayed dry year around.
In the Arkansas barn, no insulation, and the ceiling dripped moisture on high humidity days.
Both barns had full five inch posts (desired).
In both instances, the erection crew came on site and were finished and cleaned up all within three days.
Pro built barns use engineered trusses, and considerations for wind loading and snow loads.

And I have built 5 myself as well. Each time I built a shed myself it was because I had scrounged some poles and other materials that REALLY cheapened them up. If I had to buy all materials, I'd sit back and watch Morton do it (but mine were much bigger and taller--your size would be easy to do yourself).

If you decide to do it, use a local lumber yard that has guys on staff to help you through it, design for the proper snow load/wind load, etc--don't just slap something together....

Well dont have any experience with the other two but Morton builds a heck of a nice building and has the best warranties in the business. Iv got nothin but good things to say about there buildings sales people and crew. They are a little more on price but they stand behind there product and there work. Helped a buddy build a 40x60x15 and for me Ill pay the extra to have someone else do the work.

I agree with the others, A professional crew can do it in a week and be top notch.
With the building trades in the crapper you may be able to buy the materials and have a 4 man crew erect it for $1500 and 3 cases of beer.

Go on the Morton website and look at all the styles they put up.

I'd guess the labor for a building that size would be about $2,000. If your as busy as you say, I would say spend the money to have somebody else build it and think of it as a treat to yourself for all of your hard work. As far as the companies you mentioned, they should be able to provide you references of buildings they have built in your area. Morton is a well respected company, which speaks volumes, and should be taken into consideration.

Thanks for the input. I am thinking it would be money well spent just to get it done. I am gonna start leveling the spot in a week or so. I post pics when I get the building up. Thats a nice looking building George.

Morton put one up for me last November, level the ground and it was finished 7.5 days after they started, 48x81. Well, needed wiring & gravel/concrete etc, but the shell was done. Nice to have it done and move on to using it...
