New Ford Escape????

My wife wants a new Ford Escape.
Any problems to watch out for? Is this a problem truck? What is the Ford Warranty these days?

We bought a 2009 Escape new in May 2009 and now have 21000 miles on it and love it. We opted for 2wd and 2.5L 4 cylinder for fuel economy and get 26-28 mpg. The 2wd doesn't concern me because it is a FWD vehicle and it can get around as well as any 4wd on the road. I had a 2 inch reciever put on it and pull a little utility trailer every now and again. It does well pulling the trailer as long as long as you use your brain and don't expect 80 mph down the interstate or overload the trailer. Ford upgraded the powertrain in 2009, adding HP, torque, AND fuel economy over the 2008 and older models. They did this by going to a 6 speed transmission and reworking the engine.

What I wouldn't buy is a Jeep Liberty. My F-I-L and Bro-I-L both bought Diesel Liberties and hate them. They're extremely unreliable and don't get near the fuel economy they should with a diesel engine. My Bro-I-L got so sick of his that he dumped it and bought a different vehicle.

Good luck.

My wife has a 2004 Mazda Tribute...which is the same as the Ford Escape. She loves it and it has
been virtually trouble free all these years.Highly recommend the Tribute or the Escape

The first thing I would do before I signed the papers would have the dealership change the tires.
I know this because I have put 95K on a 2006 Escape and 112K on a 2008 Escape. The Continental tires all started cupping in the inside. They said I was carry excessive weight. The only thing I hauled was a suitcase.
Once the tires started cupping, the road noise was unbearable. I had to pull over to be able to listen to a phone call.
I changed to Goodyear tires and I had co-workers change to Michelin and the tire problems went away.
So, personal experience here.

We have a 06 Mercury Mariner ( same as an Escape) with 98K on it so far, My wife loves it, replaced brakes and tires at 52K and alternator at 90K, thats it great little vehicle, would buy another in an instant. Chuck

We had a 2004 Liberty and the gas mileage was 22 all around. For a v6, not good.
Xsler screwed us on getting out of the lease, so no more xslers anymore.

I have a 2002 with 146,000 miles on it and all Iv'e had to replace is a water pump and a few coil packs...Will be getting another when this one dies....

gun we just bought a 2011 escape limited 4x4 4 clyinder. runs nice is getting 23mpg local. the power train warranty is 5yrs or 60,000 mis. the 2010-11's are much quieter the previous models. we are very happy with it good luck, chuck ps the sync feature is very nice, especially if you you the phone alot while driving, and it comes with good michelin tires.

They call them Mavericks here. Seem to be OK but they stopped selling them in 2008. We were looking at a 2006. Wife drove it and liked it OK then drove a Kia Sorento. We bought the Kia. I have a Sportage that is a good vehicle also (1997). Stepson works at dealer for mercedes, Kia, Ford, and Chrysler he says the Kia repair parts they sell wouldn't keep the doors open. If you have a dealer in your area, they're worth a look.

That's funny, I LOVE my little 05 Diesel liberty. I get 25 to 26 mpe on short trips and 29-30 on the highway. never had a problem with it yet. if they still offered a diesel, I would buy another one in a heart beat.

Sorry I dont buy or drive rice burners, those Koreans dont employ me or my family.

I had a 1997 Escort, small car lasted 131,000 miles and I sold it to a car salesmen. Nothing wrong with the car other then a large paint chip.
I regret selling it.

Your choice, but who do you think makes that escape?????? It may be assembled in the States with rice burner parts but so is the KIA. To each their own.

I have a 2009 six cylinder. Never average below 22 MPG. I have the sync system. No problems so far 18,000 miles in nearly 2 years. I work with a lady who is on her 3rd one she likes them so well.

We (my wife and I ) are on our third one. It is our third or run around vehicle. Like someone posted changed the tires out on the first two for better ride. This last one a limited model had mechline tires and really makes it quite.
We use the v6 engine. This thing is used for the quick trips to town and running around local and still gets around 22 mpg. I will say this there is more diffrence between the 11 and 09 than there was the o6 to o9 model. Lots of little changes on this 11 model. Have no ideal I thought they were made in usa with maybe the engine in Germany... who knows now days and after some of the usa stuff I have bought (1979 chev pickup) don,t know that I care.

My daughter has a 2005 4 cylinder automatic with 90,000 miles and no problems at all. She went to the dealership to buy a hybrid but the hybrid cost so much more she would have to drive it 200,000 miles to get the difference back in fuel savings.

My daughter just bought a 2008 Mazda Tribute with the V6 in it. She says she gets 19mpg in town. She really likes it so far! Greg

Thanks gun guru, we need more people like you.
some people on here still have not figured out why we have such high unemployment.

I don't own one and went out looking at them and others with my sister last weekend. The Ford Escape is a joint effort between Ford and Mazda, based off of Mazda technology. Ford calls their version the Escape, and Mazda calls their version the Tribute. Ford has plans to discontinue the Escape later in the 2011 model, and replace it with something based upon a European model in its class. Ford does own some stock in Mazda, but controlling stock is in fact very much still Japanese.

Ford Motor Comp. kept me employed for 9+ years at an autosupplier in the 1990's.

And Ford didnt take any of that gov. handout money like GM and xsler did. My wife gets the employee discount cause my FIL was a Ford employee, he died 4 years ago.

Besides, like I said. Kia and the other Koreans dont employ me one bit. Screw them.

My wife's parents are on their second Escape with zero problems. Both are retired Ford engineers and supposedly get good deals.

First was a 2001 with the 3 liter V6. They put 70K miles on it and it only had a few nuisance "check engine light" issues. Each time, it had something to do with the fuel filler cap. Northern Michigan has no MV inspection, so it wasn't an issue. We took many trips in it, with 5 people and a dog - and it got 26 MPG. When it came to trade, I wanted to buy it , but the dealer offered them too much trade in money.

They now have a 2009 with the 2.5 four-banger. We just took a trip, again with 5 people and a dog. All kinds of power and it got 29 MPG. 20K miles on it and so far only one problem you can't blame on Ford. The old man backed into a telephone pole (gently). It bent the back hatch a little. Body shop insisted on replacing the hatch instead of repairing and a new 2009 hatch is not available anymore. So, a 2010 hatch was put on, with a cost over $2000.

Both were/are great rigs and I'd love to have one. I'm just too cheap and waiting for my in-laws to pass one off to us.

Father-in-law also still has his 95 F150, 4WD with a 300 six. He plows snow with it. 90K miles and only repairs are . . . a rusted out oil pan on the engine - and rear universal joints on the driveshaft. I wouldn't mind having that truck either. Nice simple rig. Body still looks perfect. Engine oil pan is the only part that got rusty.

We've had a Mercury Mariner,(a more fancier
version of the Escape)Premier Edition, with every
option possibly available, for two years.Really nice..and gets 24.9 miles per gallon with a V6.
The 4 wheel drive was great in Wisconsin snow
last winter!
