I posted this as well in the case forum, but thought I would post here as well.

I am looking at a diesel 730 case with a 830 engine. loader and
grapple included. there is about 500 hrs on an engine overhaul,
new clutch, straight tin and new paint. $4500
I was looking for a tractor around 90 hp. I am going to be round
baling, handling a few round bales, hooking up to a 7ft
snowblower, mild dirt work, etc...

I was just looking for a good all around tractor.

I am interested in the 730, but concerned that it might be too
small. I am selling a MF65 because it is too small and was
looking to upgrade.

My question is: Given the situation i described, would the 730
with an 830 engine fit my bill. ...and would it be a noticable
upgrade from my mf65? My massey is also a gas guzzler and I
am wanting a cheaper running tractor.

I don"t think you are improving yourself much. A 730 Case is not worth much normally and one with the wrong engine is worth less. I looked on line and found five 830 JI Case diesels all under $3800 dollars. Some of the parts for those older JI Case tractors are getting harder to get. CIH is phasing some of them out.
Now you Case guys I am not bad mouthing JI Case. He just is not getting a deal.

technicaly (WORKWISE )that tractor is now a 830 , they use the same rearends rdiators ,ect componets ,, Case Historically are not as expensive to buy or keep up than green tractors ..., AND delivers cheap, dependable and economical hpower that lasts , AND will not nickle and dime you to death ..

Amen Mr. Heitkemper. We currently have an 830. In the past we've had a 730 and another 830. All three were diesels. Tough, economical old tractors. I'd sure be taking a close look at that 730, especially if it is a Comfort King which has an improved hydraulic pump.

The 830 powered 730 will have about 65 horsepower. If you need 90 horse, check out big brother, the 930; an excellent tractor. We've also had three of them over the years.

I haved farmed with both back in the day. The 730 would pull anything the 830 would, just had to use a lower gear. In my opinion the 730 was a far better tractor than the 830. Get a 730 non Case-O-Matic and you got yourself a workhorse. Just my opinion.

We have an 830 case comfort king diesel and a mf65 gas, there's no comparison between the two, the case will out pull the mf about two to one! The case will use about two gallons of fuel per hour hay making. I also have a 7 ft blower on it for snow and its on it's knees all the time. They are rated at 64 HP. You can't have too much power on a snow blower!

When we still farmed we had two 830 CK,s (gas) and they were great worry free tractors BUT I also believe you can buy a 930 CK for the same money and get the six cyl engine and 90 + hp which may be what you need / want. The 930 and 1030 were big brutes. Probably not as nimble and fuel efficient as the 830 though. Stay with the later Comfort King series though and away from the "case-o-matic.
