had same thing with 1996 ford 250 with 450hp. my turn out to be electronics in cap with point under the point there is a round plat and under it is a elec relay that was bad. $$$$$ and shops working on it and that was my fix. GOOD LUCK ART

I recently had to replace a fuel pump on a Dodge 318, and the new fuel pump I purchased wouldn't pump after installation. I blew out the fuel line with air to the tank, but that didn't help. Thinking I had done something wrong, I removed and reinstalled the fuel pump, but it still wouldn't pump. I finally concluded it was defective, got another one from a different store, and that one worked fine. So, it might be worth trying a second fuel pump.

I have a '91 V6 Dakota. Mine was dead when I bought it, no fuel and no spark (previous owner said sometimes it would start and run fine, sometimes it would just crank, crank, crank and not even try to fire up) caused by a bad Hall Effect switch in the distributor. PCM sees signal from this switch as "ok, engine is rotating, turn on spark and fuel". Yours being a '96 should have crank and cam sensors for this.

Are you hearing the fuel pump come on when you turn the key on? If so, have you disconnected the fuel line at the pump to see if it's moving any fuel?

Good luck and hope this helps.

Happened to my 94 with 318. Finally found a defective wiring connection under the relay box. Was a problem with the solder connections corroding. A common problem. Mine ran fine when I parked it but wouldn't fire till we redid the connection.
