OT lime in western washington

I am hoping for a reply, from some of our washington state posters, I would like to buy 10 yd of bulk lime, to apply, or even have it spread. I need to know where to go, I am not going to buy anymore bagged lime from Home Depot. I found a place in Scio Oregon, but the miles are prohibitive.

Hello Ralph

Where are you located? I might know of somebody you could call to see about getting some lime. I am just north of Mount Vernon

I am just east of FT Lewis, between Roy, and Yelm. I have a 10 yd dump truck, and an IH V box spreader, but having it delivered and spread would be ok also!

Ralph.......there used to be a lime outfit in Fife, but with all the veggie farmers selling out to developers.....dunno. I looked at gittin some lime fer my starvation grass pasture 20-yrs ago but I didn't have a truck or trailer. Like you, don't wanna squander $$$ at deep homo. .......Dell, head shepherd RockyRidge SheepStation (260th st)

I lived in a trailer park in Roy when I was a Private stationed at the FT (26 yrs ago). Perfect view of Mt Rainier. Remember setting outside in summer til almost 11 without light because of the reflection. Can't answer your lime question, but thanks for the memory.

You will get the most for your dollar if you buy it by the truckload, as say a triaxle load would be about 23 tons and about 14 yards. A ten wheeler may hold 11 yards legally.

Wilco Ag Center in Chehalis- (360) 748-9277

They have lime in those big canvas-type "totes" for $115 a ton, picked up at Chehalis. Or can deliver and spread for about $60 a ton, 24 ton minimum. They don't have it in bulk- not enough storage on the property- they bring it up out of Oregon as needed, and it is spread directly from the truck that delivers it.

Rule of thumb in SW Washington is about 3 tons per acre (soil test suggested). It doesn't do much good to skimp, as the benefit isn't incrmental- either you've put on enough to neutralize the pH, or you haven't, as I understand it.

Call tomorrow, ask for Jason (he's not in today).

Dave2 You said you used to live in Roy! Did you ever go fish Chambers lake, on the east side of the Base? They have closed the base to civilians since 9-11, and I can't get in anymore, but it was a great large mouth bass resorse. I have to use American lake, or Harts lake now!

Sorry, I don't remember. I was there for 2 and a half years but didn't spend a lot of time at the fort. Fished a little in a river on post and fooled around a lake (thought it was American Lake) across from the NCO club. Had a SGT that was from Yakima and used to go there and fish the river with him and his dad. Only lived a few months in Roy. Thought I'd be there a while and really liked it, but as soon as I got settled in, I came down on orders for Korea. I was too young and rambunctious to really appreciate the area as I would now.

Call your local Co-Op. Usually they deliver and spread or they will rent you a spreader. That's only good if you have the means to haul the lime yourself. Also call the AG chemical dealers in your area. You did get a soil test, right?
