Hey folks,
humor me. Still tractor shopping in case my road trip gets too expensive. I'm just too tight to pay the prices folks are asking for big name brands. Just ran across a not real popular german brand (Eicher) for a decent price with a nice cab. Could use a little elbow grease and some tlc to pass inspection and get plates on it, but the foundation is there.

What I could find is that it has the Perkins AD 4-203 motor and a MF155 transmission. 54HP. With that running gear, it should be a decent tractor shouldn't it?

Dave ,If you get it, start sanding it down for a NICE PAINT JOB (RED IN COLOR) MAKE IT look like OLD UGLY!!! You will find it to run much stronger in red. lol.

MF red is a good choice for a color but I have never seen an ugly tractor just some prettier than others. I could have used a cab on my MF 65 today while I was plowing snow outta the drive.

(quoted from post at 15:10:04 01/19/11) Dave, what do they inspect on a tractor?
Obvious stuff (leaks, ragged edges) then brakes, lights (just like on a car), and you have to have a warning triangle and an approved, non outdated first aid kit. Wipers and rear view mirror if it has a cab.

That's, uh, classy ... I guess. Don't do anything to that tractor, just get a bag for your head when you drive it.

You's guys are just jealous............... Is it the color or the cab???? Pretty nice when a cold wind is blowing rain or snow Almost took the cab off my little tractor when I got it cause it was ugly and I had never seen one with a cab growing up. Didn't have time right away and along came about 4 weeks of rain. Cab's still there.

Dave, Take a couple hour drive down to Hungry or Poland. When I lived in Hungry, Bellaruses where driven and parked in fence rolls/groves on the former collective farms. The farmers couldn't wait to be able to get John Deeres after the fall of the iron curtain.

Dave, I dont know what everyone else is looking at, but I think the tractor reallly looks good. May be because I live in Germany for 7 years. It sont need painting, just polishing up a bit. Find out about dealer support and parts availability and go for it. Beats driving that long distance. Looks to have been well cared for. Tom

Guilty as charged. This would make a neat little chore tractor.

I guess it to be 40 - 45 years old. The new machines they are building today won't be around that long.

Hay Dave;
Been scraching my head here a little, but my sugestion for a strong "tractor foundation" would be to pump all the tires full of concrete. LOL it's all about people skills, Rite? Smile, its been a long winter already!

I don't care what you guys say about the looks, I don't have to impress anybody buy myself when driveing a tractor. I think it looks great.

We used to have a truck we called "old ugly"...'58chevy cabover, dark green spekledbox,torquoise/white cab(lots of rust),2 feet(air space) between cab and box.......

You crawl over the hood. Obviously lightly used, by the owner only, because your typical lunk hired man would have caved in the hood while getting in.

I'd jump on it. The deal, not the hood.

"But seriously, folks"- I don't think its ugly. Nice headlights molded to the grill shell in jaunty fashion, silly little fenders on the front that can be forgiven because they're required, I think. Cab would look OK in combat position. Sheet metal looks excellent. A nice Ford blue paint job would do it more good than a week at the beach.

Whats the story on the PTO? Live or independent? Whats the reputation of this tractor for reliability? Are parts available?

Wing on the left side swings open to step in.

Suppose to be the same running gear as a MF 155/165 so the PTO should be the same. I ain't that smart yet.

Supposed to be dependable. I've yet to see one for sale at scrap or donor price in all my shopping.

Parts are all over ebay, so over the counter stuff should be no problem.

Older ones make nice and (seem) simple restoration projects.

WOW! All that, and it goes fast enough to get a glider aloft? Get it QUICK! In fact, you're gonna have to be quick to catch up with it!

'Course, I always gravitate to the strange stuff (no, not THAT kind of strange stuff), so I like it anyhow. My collector tractors are Oliver, Cockshutt and Moline- wouldn't even consider something as boring as a Deere or Farmall.

The front end on the one in the glider pic sure looks flimsy, doesn't it? I believe the one you're interested in is 4WD, though.

Think that is 10 or 12HP model. Pic was taken not far from. He was just pulling the gliders into position. The one I like is only 2wd. Love a 4wd tractor, but it'd be cheaper to just put gravel on the two places I'd have to worry about.
