Finally did it

Yesterday I bought a used Westendorf WL42 loader to put on the 1086. Been thinking about it for years, but the old 15,000 hour '10' is now relegated to light duty service since I bought the 4650 so now's the time.

The Du-al has been on the old 12,000+? hour 630 for 41 years and now it's time to put the 630 into semi-retirement. Gonna donate the loader to a young guy who has a tractor to put it on but doesn't have the money for a loader.

Bought an old used welded up Westendorf grapple claw too. It' straight, but welded in about every place it could break. Could have bought a better claw but I'm just too cheap for that. besides, my old claw is welded up in all the same places. In my view, a loader's not a loader without a grapple. Now I have to find pallet forks to load the 500+ big square corn stover bales I have that go to the new cellulosic ethanol plant. I'm gonna enjoy the warm cab for sure. Jim

I'm gonna go get the loader on Tuesday. I'll post pics whenever we get it on the tractor. The seller had thrown a very light half-coat of paint on it to make it look good from the road and in my view it made the loader look worse. I told him so when I was looking at it. Can't wait to get the shop freed up so I can sandblast it, throw on epoxy primer and paint it up right. There are no welds or bends anywhere that I can see and the bucket cylinder pins are only slightly worn. Jim

Bet you'll like it. I have a Westendorf WL-27 that I switch between a 686 and 886 I.H. Excellent loader. I like it better on the 686, but the cab with heat on the 886 is nice for winter use.

I don't know what color he has it painted but if you are going to repaint make sure and go flat black. I bought a brand new Westendorf 340 and they are silver from the factory. I repainted it flat black before I ever put it on the tractor. New from experiance if you use it with lights any other color will reflect and distract you in the cab.

The flat black idea is a good one. I've been toying with going black anyway so it didn't take much to convince me. Just got home from the salvage yard with a third valve stack, lever, rear outlet body for the 1086 so I can have a third valve for the grapple claw. Salvage yard must do this alot because after I called them they got it all together in a box and had it waiting for me complete with a couple of hoses to go back to the outlet body. Steel line are NA. The money is stacking up, folks. $400 for the third valve setup and another $155 for the poineer conversion for the outlet box in baack. Gonna go after the loader tomorrow instead of Tues. Forecast sounds pretty frigid for next week. Jim
