They are a pretty impressive bird....used to see them occasionally on the tarmac at McConnel AFB.

Now there is the A380....

Its maybe 3-4 hours 6 Im cant remeber, Ya as I said last week cost a fourtune for his vist. They closed the Northway I87, the airport for inbound and out going planes. There was alot of securety. More pics on 810WGY. com if you wanna poke around there.

It would be about the same since Schenectay is about 20 mins from Albany.
The person above wanted to know the driving time from GE to Washington.

I know they landed in Albany.
They should have landed at the Air Force Air Guard Base in Glenville.
Just mins from GE.

Yes thats what I was asking last week, I guess Schenectady ANG base has shorter runways?Im only 14 miles from GE myself.

They have a 7000 foot runway at the Air Guard base and can land Galaxy C5's there for the air show.
They can land and take off safely on a 6000 foot runway and they are one big plane.

I would also thought for security reasons it would have been better because its not a public airport. The 109th air lift wing is all that uses it I think. You know what I mean, they dont land SouthWest planes there or commercial airlines there. Hard to figure. I dont even remember if they had the air show this summer?? I liked watching the Blue Angles or the Thunderbirds over the years.

It is a public and Air Force shared airport.
Richmore Aviation jets fly out of there are along with many other private owner planes.
It is really called The Schenectady County Airport

The Air Guard has a very secure guarded section of the airport at the very north end. That is there section of the property.

There are 2 Air Force 1's. One is used as a decoy. However, I'm sure that if either one had an emergency and had to land, they would land at any airport with a suitable runway. If an airport can't trust Air Force 1, who can they trust? Dave

How stupid of me.
It was done at Albany County Airport {Notice I didn't say Albany Int'l Airport. Try to get an international flight out of there. It's just a name thing. They do have a flight to Canada once in awhile.LOL
Back to the subject:
It was for the show.
Nobody could see him at a secure air base.

As I recall, there is or are no particular airplanes permanently dubbed Air Force 1. Any airplane the president is on becomes Air Force 1.

I may be wrong, but even the 747's simply go be their bureau number when the president is not on board.

That may be true about what plane the president is on but there are a few planes that are painted Air Force One.
A friend of mine was an electronic expert and was stationed to them.
He went on every flight.

There was a TV show on awhile back about Air Force One. There are two planes ready to fly when needed and when one goes to say Germany, they both go every overseas trip. The one the president rides in is called Air Force One but not the second one . But the second one is always in the same area for the whole trip. It is also equipped exactly like the first one.

As we were comming back form the west coast last fall it was about mid afternoon when the Captian came on the speaker. He said any one sitting on the right side should look out to the right and what a beautifull site. Sun was shining and a clear day. we watched as air force I with two fighter jets escorting it came up beside and passed. I am sure they were miles away but was a neat site. Nothing was said about another one and I sure did not see anything else.

Noticed the First Lady met 5 people, she embraced the last 2.Why would that be? Birds of a feather.?

Some contributors who made comments should start using their brains. No need for smut, and will be the first to complain when censorship is applied.

Buffalo Ny not normally equipped for 747 flights, but if I remember right Air force one has landed there. apparently there are executive priviledges. Bill M.

Clinton flew here to Champaign, IL when he was pres- don't remember why, (or maybe didn't care). When they went to leave, the pilot cut a corner too sharp and dropped the landing gear off into the mud. They sat there till another 747 came to pick them up. If I recall, it didn't take long- less than a half hour.

Air Force 1 practice landings on a short runway at the airport about 3 miles from my farm and go right over me as the runway linesup with the farm. They circle around and almost hit the runway but then pull up and circle back around to do it again. They'll do it 15 or so times most days that they practice

toolz--
I remember that--when Air Force One got stuck in the mud at the Savoy airport.
I still laught about it. Wonder if the pilot/landing crew kept their jobs after that one?
Myself, I didn't want Clinton here anyway, shows him right gettin stuck in good old IL mud, lol.

There are a quite a few International airports that cannot accept something the size of a 747 due to runway lenths and/or pavement restrictions.
