I think it was you who had requested a picture of a completed violin that I and a friend have done. I've attached a photo of one that is close to done, meaning the most time consuming work is complete.

We actually have 1 totally done and 3 in various stages of completion.

Thank you for posting the picture. That is a beautiful violin, and I'm sure it will sound good too. You must be very proud of a job like that. Do you play them as well as build them?

if you hit send more than one time it will do that, or just a web glitch.
Just pretend you made 4 of em :)

Playing? Yes, some, but not anything that is fast like 100 MPH bluegrass. Don't even like fast bluegrass!! In our band we have two lady fiddle players so I and my violin-building friend stick to guitar and bass then and just do fiddle at home or in practice for fun.

I didn't start to learn fiddle until I was 63 and that means I don't have much chance to "get good" at it, but I love to listen to good old time, country and/or gospel on the fiddle.

We buy finishing supplies of stains and varnishes from a violin supply company in Canada.

Also we use rottenstone for buffing and pumice for polishing.

It's a complicated process, some would say it's the hardest part of the job.
