Any recomendation on all electric package units. Prices vary a lot. I've been looking at Goodman, Tempstar, Heil, Rheem, York/Luxaire, and Carrier. 3 ton unit, Goodman starts at about $2200, Rheem is about $2700, Tempstar/Heil is about $2900, York is about $3500, and the Carrier is $4900. Everything is online price with only the sellers warranty except for the Tempstar/Heil and thats a local contractors unit price, add another 6 or 7 hundred for is installation to get the full warranty. Other local contractors want over $5500 for a Goodman unit. This is just a change out. Any one brand better than another??

I really don't think there is all that much difference in all of them. They all work on the same principle with a lot of commonality in parts between the most expensive to the cheapest.

Bought a Goodman 90+ furnace for the shop a year ago and installed myself. So far, so good.

Depends more on the application. Undersizing, over sizing or other design errors will make or break any system.
Air to air units loose efficiency below being practical at approx 40F.
Many ground source geothermal problems can be traced to under sized ground loop area.
Well and pond source systems can suffer from dirt, minerals or low gpm flow.
Cheapest improvement for any heating and cooling of any structure. Is to seal air leaks first and insulate the structure second.

The carrier and Rheem systems are probably the top of the line units but a lot of the parts in both come from the same place so probably not much difference in them. I payed around $4800 for a 3 ton unit for my mobile home and about 2 years later my mom got one and payed about $800 more for the same brand unit. So the longer you wait the more it is going to cost you. I know a lot of parts for them are made right here in my town by Modine

Since there is a big factory here in Clarksville Tenn that makes them a unit called Trane is real poplar in this part. Not a change out was complet instlation including all duct work ect. Two 3 ton units for new house 3 years ago and have never been more satisfied. Very quite operation. Have a variable rate fan that comes on slow then gains speed. Heat bills have been nearly nothing.

It's not so much the brand you buy as it is the service you will get later. If you find a good local HVAC business, they will sell only the brand that stands behind their produce. No one will stay in business for long if they sell junk and can't back up the produce they sell with good service. Heat pumps are problematic and require servicing. They won't last 30 years like an old gas or oil furnace. You may be lucky to get a 10 year compressor.

It would be interesting to ask others how long has their heat pump lasted and how many service calls did they have before they replaced it?

I personally don't think the money you save over the life of the heat pump will pay for the savings you get.

Also, a heat pump is a cold heat source. If you are used to having hot air from your furnace, you won't like the 80-90 degree air that comes out of a heat pump.

#1: Copeland scroll compressor

#2: low pressure switch

#3: high pressure switch

#4: TDR ( time delay relay)

#5: Copper coils

#6: oil type fan motor bearings (not a deal breaker)

The above makes a excellent HP unit and doesn't matter what the brand name is.

A correct designed/installed HP system will have discharge register temps of approx 115ºf no matter where it's located.

have installed many Goodmans, Rheems, Tranes etc in the last 30 years and I still like Goodman the best, Reasonable cost, last a long time and you can do it yourself if it is a replacement. Not really brain surgery OH

I would take a hard look at American Standard if you plan on being in the home for an extended period of time. They are somewhat higher in price but the warranty and overall quality are well worth it.
