Got Stuck Today

Second mowing job of the new year, and I got stuck. Ground was wet, but was doing good as long as I kept on top of the grass. I came to a slight incline, and went down on one rear of my JD 401 industrial. My tractor doesn't have a posi traction rear end, so one wheel does all the spinning. If I could have locked the rear end I could have just driven out. Can't imagine why JD made a industrial tractor with out a way to lock the rear end. Might have not bought the thing if I had known it didn't have a way to lock the rear end. Anyway I finally got unstuck. Stan

No differential lock? Are you sure? As you sit on the seat, allow your left hand to drop straight down. There you should find a lever to push towards the tire for lock. Or a pedal that you push down with your heel for lock. Is there even a shaft down there?

Feather the brake on the wheel that's spinning. That's basically how the modern 'traction control' systems work. They just use a 'puter to do the job.

No heal lever for sure. Not sure about a hand operated lever I am sure I checked it fairly good last year when I got it stuck. I will do a check Monday. My MF 231 does have a heal lock. I should have used that tractor. I used the JD because it has my flail mower attached. The flail mower does a better job in green weeds. I left the tractor in the field, and will finish the job Monday, as by the time I got the thing out I was Pooped. Stan

Hey, I got stuck today too. My tractor does have a diff lock... and MFWD... and chains. Still can't pull a wagon with a cord of oak in it up a field road when the temp hits 30 and the sun comes out. I left it there. It's going to get down in to 10F tonight so I have a feeling my fortunes will have changed by morning.
