B414 glow plug starting

Can anyone give me proper instructions to start a B414 diesel with glow plugs? Temp and time to glow would be helpfull, I sold one to my neibour and they burnt out the resistor the first day. I used it for ages but they blame me. Thanks, Don from Canada

Has it got the preheat chamber and the old type (slow) glowplugs?
My German (D series) 100k around a minute on the old plugs but had an indicator to tell you when it was hot enough so you wouldn't run them too long. Switched over and rewired a little and have normal GP's in now and takes 5-7 seconds depending on the temperature.
Mine has a pull out starter button that was also the GP switch. You pulled it out halfway until the indicator in the dash started to glow (saying the GP's had heated enough) and pull it the rest of the way to engage the starter. Are the british models like that also?

Tell neighbor he should have use a bit of common sense. Then hand him a box of wooden matches. Bet he don't hold them on to long...lol

Did you forward the operator's manual to the new owner of the tractor??? Seems like that would answer the question!

.... Bob, who has a (similar) 424 and doesn't have an operator's manual either, and is likewise unsure as to how long to preheat the GP's, either, but hasn't burned them out... yet!!

You folks don't have the little coil on in the dash that heats up/glows?

You might ask here if anyone can help you out with a copy of the manual

Or maybe Roy or MJ in the UK, or Hendrik can help. If they are the same type system as the D series (german), I can send you a pdf of mine that you can use google translator on.

I have a B250 and the glow plugs are slow, takes thirty seconds to a minute, when its cold it takes a bit longer,I start cranking the engine over after about thirty seconds, white smoke starts coming and it starts to fire once its running I let off on the glow plugs and let the tractor run until its firing on all 4, then I let it run at a fast idle for a few minutes until some sort of operating temperature comes up..and a British diesel works best when warmed up to operating temp.
