i use 6011 or 6013 on a Lincoln 225 AC machine...
be careful with them galvanized fumes tho.

Grind off the zinc coating where you plan on welding, and then do not breathe any of the welding fumes. Drink Milk to absorb the zinc oxide toxins.

As to which rod to use, it depends upon the position of the work. A 6011 rod can make a vertical weld because of fast freeze of the molten metal. A 6013 rod is very difficult to use in any position other than flat. The red hot metal tends to run away like solder. The 6011 is deeper penetrating, and is better at cleaning up the dirty rusty metal surface.

Do this kind of welding only outdoors, and do not get the helmet directly in line with the smoke. The welding smoke is very poisonous.

I worked maintenance at a hot dip galvanizing plant for about a year and part of that was was repairing the jigs they used to dip the parts in the zinc. The only rod we ever used was 6011 mainly because it was the only rod with a forcefull enough arc to burn through the zinc and give a peetrating weld that would actually hold. That said if you grind off the galvanizing before you do the welding, and since you should at least bevel the ends much of the zinc in the weld area is already gonna be gone, you can then use a 7018 for the weld. That would be your best bet, especially if your wanting a leak free joint. A 6011 burning through the zinc will usually leave a porous weld that may hold the 'weight' of the joint but will most likely leak under pressure.

6010 or 6011 are the best for welding galavanized. Using a fan and/or a respirator is a good idea. Breathing the fumes will give you zinc chills and make you very sick. The drinking milk theory is a wives tail but avoiding breathing the fumes isn't.

6011 is a junk yard rod it will weld on nasty rusty surfaces with a spattered looking weld ,but when ground off if welded right it will be clean metal good penetration not full of slag pockets good for first pass then follow up with another type rod,i generally use 7018 ac dc rods with dc machine, ac machine will work, slag can be a little had to clean but it has very little problem with slag pockets in the weld when welding galvanize, don't care to use 7014 or 6013 because of slag pockets in the weld
