We"re looking at a 4255 massey and wondering about what kind of shifting pattern is common on this tractor or if there is more than one option. Its out of state and we would be buying it sight unseen so any other info on it would be helpful. thanks

At least two patterns I know of, the 8x8 and the 12x12 with a splitter.

The 12x12 is 4 speeds with a gate you move past to shift the 3 speed range box and there is a dual speed button too.

I think the 8x8 is just a 4spd with 2 spd range box.

You can get mechanical sync or clutchless reverser models.

If looking at pics, the clutchless reverser is a small orange handle and is a wet clutch model. The manual synchro reverser is a bigger black plastic handle in the same place and is usually a dry clutch model.

I think a floor mounted sync reverser was on some platform models maybe?

The tractor is based of the 165 series of tractors, same basic hitch design and hydraulics etc.

I think the 4200's may have had the option for dual flow 100 lpm (25 gpm) high flow pumps. There is a blue rocker switch on the console in these models, great for loader work. Normally these give 2 independant pumps for flow to the remotes and the 3 point, then you throw the switch and it combines to go priority to the remotes.

I think there are a few more....there were "too many" trans combos.

I can dig out my 4200 sales lit, I have it for that series of tractors and remember specing one out once.

I think the 8x2 was even available plus a 24x24 power shuttle and a a "Speedshift" box that was 18x6.
