weight of ballasted tires

I'm planning on removing the wheels from my M so I can paint them and replace one rim. Before I just unbolt them and hope for the best, I thought I'd better ask: how heavy are they? ( they are 38 x 12.4 with ballast) does anyone have any clever tricks they've developed that might make this job easier?

Thanks for all the help

They probably have almost 500lb in them. I handle them by myself with fluid, but is better if someone is there if you get in trouble. I don't like fluid in tires, so I would take it out. I just use a hose and fitting from a old hand pump and run it into a barrel. Vic

Dan, probably wise of you to ask first. Tire-135 lbs. rim maybe 75 lbs. Ballast, depending on solution strength, up to 500lbs. Total approx. 700 lbs. I use a fork lift to help with mine. I would advise against trying this at home without a solid overhead means of keeping it from tipping onto you. loaded tires of that height would be very difficult to control. The pros do the repairs with the tire on the tractor. If you don't have a machine call the tire company or drain the tires first.

What are your future plans for this tractor? Are you doing an overall paint and resto?
If it's going to be a parade/show/pleasure. with a little light work, now is the time to drain the fluid, remove the rims from the wheels, remove the tire from the rims. Blast prims and paint all. You don't want to be trailering a super heavy M anyway. I have a neighbor who moves at leat 1000 1400 lb round bales every winter with his Super M, chains, and a F11 loader. One set of weights and no ballast.
I'd have apro come and dismount the rims and tires and you can trade out the fluid to him

If you take them off with a loader, park the loader behind the tractor- you will be alongside the M if the loader falls, and the bucket will hit the tire, not you. They are too big for anyone to manhandle when loaded.....whether it"s you or the tire!

I have changed many by myself...just a 170 lb weakling...keep the tire upright and you will be surprised how easy they are to roll around. If it gets away from you just let it fall and get the loader or skidloader to pick it back up.
