Boiler Clunk

A little after the burner comes on there is a clunk that I can hear in the room above it. It didn't do it when I went down to listen more closely. Pressure is twelve lbs. water temp about 175. No air in the chamber on the air scoop. checked pressure relief, let off some water and it closed up again. Boiler is a steel unit, about 21 years old. What is causing this?

Are you sure its a little after it comes on? My boiler did that and it was as it ignited it made a little pop or clunk. come to find out after letting it go a while it was a screen where the gas comes out to ignite had corroded and wasn't mixing properly and having a "minor" explosion. Was told if it went much longer it could have been a lot bigger boom.

A pipe may be rattling or the water tank may be low on air thus not allowing it to provide the cushion. I learned this in school, majoring in HVAC.
