OT; Very Intense!

The county is putting a program on here at the high school, called "Shattered Lives". It is a SIMULATED multiple auto accident (four cars). Bodies are scattered all over the place. There were 17 patients, 11 of whom are fatalities. Three of the fatalities were pulled out of my second period class by the Grim Reaper and their obituaries were read to the class. They simulated the accident scene very well with four fire trucks, four ambulances, a Life-Flight helicopter and local, county and state police on the scene. The fireman used the jaws of life to get to the "victims". All juniors and seniors were required to attend. It was a pretty sobering experience and very well simulated. One of my third period girls fainted. It seems to be pretty effective, as they do this at all the county high schools every few years. If it saves a life, I guess it is well worth it. It"s very sobering, to say the least.

We did this in my high school. WE simulated a drunk driving accident where two cars collided head on. It was a very serious simulation and we had the fire departments medical staff and everything else. A very sobering experience. A couple years before me they had life flight come in and help with the demonstration. We also had a day that we had a "grim reaper" come around and it would show hoe many people die a year from smoking. I went to a small school and graduated in 2009. Both really open your eyes to the dangers of life.

there will be neg and pos responds to topic. hope it doesn't get out of hand to be removed: but in today's world of fancy gadgets for the young and old to use in a car, [you only get one life]. gruesome as it may be/look, we need to wake up people that driving at today speeds/traffic, what can happen if you screw up. no one is exempt, thinking it won't happen to me, i a'm a good driver!!! yeh, you may think so, what about the one next to you, who says the same before they crash into you! i'm all for it, my opinion.

Two of the "drivers" (survivors) were arrested for DWI and placed in the patrol car and driven off. The "fatalities were volunteers, painted with white face paint, dressed in black, gave up their cell phone and cannot talk to anyone until after the follow-up assembly tomorrow morning. They will not go home tonight and cannot even communicate with their parents. It seems a little weird to see them in the halls.

They did this at the h.s. just down the road from me (but not the district I'm in) last week. Really seems to have gotten through to at least some of them. Hopefully it's a message that will STAY with them.

Pretty much every year the local high schools lose one or two students. Story is a familiar pattern: inexperienced driver, driving too fast, no seat belts, multiple fatalities.

We have one of those at my high school. It's called operation safe prom. This is my last year of having to watch it. Last year they had a summary at the end and said you shouldn't drink and drive... then on the road behind em a big bud light box truck went by. It was pretty funny lol

Seeing as we lost several in our graduating class plus the years ahead and behind... this would be a very enlightening experience.

The youth are not all the texters. Have seen 18 wheel drivers on I 80 in Illinois texting at hwy speeds.

Sounds like something harpo would do.

The bottom line is, raise your kids with some intelligence and expose them (and PREPARE them) to deal with the dangers of the world and don't rely on some politically correct entity to do it for you!

(OH, YEAH, and there's a now dead old-time term for that that few have heard of.... COMMON SENSE!)

sorry to say we didnt have any such programs when i was in school...we averaged 5 students a year dying in wrecks...drunk,speeding,or plain stupid...you dont come back once youre dead.
hope it gets the message across.
