Better get ready for mowin season...

If ya look close, it's not sittin on the rack. It was on the ground, the trees grew and lifted it up--one limb growing thru the engine compartment, even. Been there awhile, I suppose...about 6' off the ground, lol
I guess it would be a good way to store it if in a flood plain area...

Yep, I bet it will need a shot of starting fluid to get her started, it may not start on the first pull?? But hey I BET IT WAS RUNNING WHEN IT QUIT AND IT WAS BOUGHT NEW

Looks like a Bantam I drove well over 50 yrs ago when I was a kid. Front wheel drive 360 turning......

They were driven off the top end of the drive shaft near the recoil start. There was a gearbox on the fork that drove a chain and set of sprockets on the side of the fork. For reverse the wheel was turned 180 degrees. earlier units were single speed later units had two speeds. They were made by Swisher and sold under thr model names Big Mow and Ride King. An older neighbor had one when I was growing up.

That Big Mow brings back memories. I spent many hours on one of them. No pull rope for starting, had to crank(ratchet/spring mechanism) then move lever to release tension on spring and presto!
Well hopefully it started the first time or back to cranking... It was the only mower dad would use for the yard around the house. While I did that he would be mowing the rest of the farmyard with the oliver 60 & woods mower. SHON

We must have gone through 3 or 4 of them Big Mows. Besides the crank start at least one of ours had a 110 electric start. Plug into the outlet in the shed with the cord they provided, start her up, unplug it and away we go. Always a comotion with the belts and pullys on the two speed drive. That was an excellent design but they should have built them a little heavier.

Actually, It had to have been stacked that high in the first place.
Contrary to what I thought for years, trees grow from the top up and at whatever level a limb develops that will be the height of the limb for the life of the tree.
No matter......its a GREAT picture!!

I was going to mention that. If you pound a nail in a tree 6' off the ground it will remain ~6' off the ground for the lifespan of the tree.

Only the terminal bud grows upward each year and if it meets resistance it will just try to go around whatever is pushing against it.

Now that ya mention it, I think that's right.

It must have been setting on that shelving,
and the wood planks of the rack have long since rotted away.

Then the trees took over holding it up...
