Me, was able to spread chicken manure 1 day and get disked in. Only about 40 acres worth. 1.75" rain since friday night, to slimy to work. Still have about 30 acres worth to spread and incorperate, and disk in with last years stalks, rest was on bean ground and just needs a pass with cultivator to plant. IF my planting tractor is back from the shop I am planning on planting a few acres on tues, other wise maybe start friday. Waiting on soil test from two new rented feilds to decide if they be beans or corn ground. I just have a feeling that corn is onna be the money maker this year, lot acres planned but we are getting close to max yeild plant dates, if not passed in some area's. Now that I've babbled on and on, how bouth the rest of ya'll?

Good Morning Dave,

I'm just wondering if the mama cows have given their babies swimming lessons yet? Man did we get the rain up here yesterday. No chance of hauling manure in the next two weeks, I'm sure. Was half planning to do some spring plowing, but think that is just wishful thinking too. We have the snow flakes flying and the wind blowing like crazy. Between dad and I we have burned 32 cords of wood in the outdoor boilers, and still are cutting more each week to keep them going. Winter can turn to summer anytime!

dave you shoud be at swap meet. friday it was nice and sunny and warm with some mud. lots of stuff there. this morning hear in nw ia its 45 and the wind is blowing 40mph. good luck with the weather up there. Bob

You all done calving? I forget , did you go back to Gelveih bulls again? That one I had born that cold night that went unnoticed only has half a tail now and less than half it's ears,(from freezing) calf is doing great oher wise but I am worried what the insects will do to her when the warm weather comes. Maybe double insect tags on each ear? If I can even find a spot to pinch them on.

How about we send you some of this and you send us some of that, then it would be perfect both places!

This is todays weather here in far South Texas:

96°F/73°F TodayPartly cloudy and windy. Hot. High 96F. Winds SSE at 25 to 35 mph.

Down here in N.E Ohio it is hard enough to just get silage to the cows let lone even think about getting into the fields . The barn needs cleaned and the sheep barn is so full that the sheep are almost rubbing there backs on the bottom of the roof trusses . I do believe that if ya took a dozer with swamp pad out in the field you would sink it .

Not quite done yet, 8 stragglers in the corall waiting to come in, 2 that should be in the next day or two. We are actually using Gelbveih/Red Angus balancer bulls this year, and they are going out with the cows this afternoon.
On that calf with no ears and a short tail, if there is room for insect tags, that is a good idea. If not, that calf will soon learn to get into the middle of the herd and the tail swatting from the others will usually protect it pretty good. I don't think you have to be too worried about it. It'll do just fine.

Dave,

Up here in western Manitoba, we"re still under a blizzard warning, the snow has nearly stopped (at least i hope this is all we get), down to the low 20"s overnight and with the wind chill nearer to 0F. I"n not sure how much snow actually fell, but i have drifts 10ft high by my cattle shelters, and the snow is too deep to get the 4x4 truck out of my yard (and i thought i was done plowing snow for this year)

Up until this happened Friday evening and yesterday, the melt was done, and the fields starting to dry although lots of water standing still, might have been a couple of weeks before we got on the land, now i guess it will be longer...

Most years here we mange to start just about now in the fields, last year was much earlier, so i guess this is payback for last year...

Central Nebraska, planters running hot and heavy as the ground is ready. It was very dry early but we had 3" rain in the last two weeks. Worth waiting to plant into some moisture. Maybe the frost last night will slow down the weeds, need to get the sprayer going too.

nearly 1/4" of ice on a pail of rainwater here in Minneapolis this morning. 11:15 AM now and it still hasn't thawed. Was going to work on a tractor today (outside) but decieded not to. Going to have some warm corn bread with butter and home made maple syrup for lunch and take a nap instead.

here NW Oregon its still raining wettest April ever recorded BUMMER, was so cold this morning that the dogs wouldn"t go outside til noon. Buddy did get one field of wheat fertilized.

We had a real old fashioned snow storm here yesterday, not too much snow but 60 to 70 mile an hour winds. Western part of state up to a foot of snow. All their power lines are damaged do to winds.

Beautiful day Sunday- hit 64 degrees! Mowed lawns like there was no tomorrow. And I guess there wasn't, lawn wise- its raining again this morning.

April was the coldest since they started keeping records.
