Pat - My experience is the 6 volt generator will deliver close to 10 amps (i.e. 120 watts) with running on 12 volts. HOWEVER it will have to spin faster (hence need higher engine RPM) to achieve the 10 amp output than it did when the generator was working on 6 volts. If your goal simply is power to run 12 volt lights, an alternator is the way to go (400+ watts at idle!) But if you want your tractor to "look" correct, use the old generator - just be aware of the drawbacks.
