Analyze your problem carefully there, Richard. If you do indeed have a bad bearing, it can be hard to pinpoint just by sound. Cast steel and iron carry sound real well. What you hear coming from your transmission could be comingup from the final drive. Try raising one wheel at a time and doing a little spinning and jiggling to see if that helps locate any problem. AS for difficulty, I just finished replacing everything fromt he differential bearings out on both sides of my BN. The lower bearings are pretty easy--just remember to put the long spacer back over the shaft before you seat the inner bearing. The upper bearings area little tougher and will require a hoist other assistance to help pull, particularly on the right side of your A. Those bearings don't reauire you to split the tractor. As important as any help is making sure you have your tractor is well-chocked and supported SECURELY. Even doing one side at a time, with the right side shaft, housing and final off an A, you have something pretty heavy and pretty narrow hanging up in the air. If you should bang that heavy right wheel getting it back on, you don't want anything that's going to move very far at all. More than 2 cents, I know.
