Mike: Your right, there in lies the answer. My thinking is fast hitch was in the engineering stage before either MTA or 400. Looks to me like IH felt they didn't have draft control perfected to a point they would put in on the market, thus the 300-400 hitch was modified giving depth control only. Why it was necessary to change that top cover, who knows.
