Hugh,

If you look at my picture from several days ago, you will see that my PTO gearbox is attached to a planetary IPTO. IH offered both the plain cover and the belt pulley cover for that unit.

My PTO pulley will also fit my 504.

I have been looking at my parts books. The 504 book has the gearbox with 28/16 gears (1.75 ratio). My 656 book has 31/16 gears(1.94 ratio). Both illustrations show different adaptors although the 504 book says it is not used.

Yes, it appears that the 656 PTO will fit the 1468. That PTO comes in a "A" and a "B" model. One is 540 RPM and the other is 1000 rpm. If my buyer is willing to install a 540 PTO in his tractor, he may have to make or purchase the adaptor to bolt up the gearbox. He will also need the same adaptor to bolt up the 1000 RPM box. IH did make a 1000 RPM box. It looks the same as the 540 box. One was sold this week on eBay for $760 and it wasn't NOS like mine. The high price is why I am interested in selling my gearbox and pulley. A lesser reason is that the pulley doesn't fit very well on a fast hitch tractor. The wishbone and pulley can hit each other if the operator is not careful.

I think this arrangement less desirable than a genuine 1000 rpm box due to, as you mentioned, heating with prolonged operation. Plus he has the inconvenience of having to live with a 540 shaft in his high powered tractor.

Today's Featured Article - Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned. But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga ...
