JMOR, Think we need a voltage regulator. Cleaned genny. Got it to work by using a tail light bulb and connecting the field terminal to ground via the tail light bulb. The bulb glows a little and the ammeter indicates a small charge. Had to reverse the wires to the meter so when the switch is turned on, it indicates discharge and when the genny is working it indicates a charge.
Now all we have to do is find a 3 coil VR. Many thanks. George
