I have a '63 Ford 2000D that I "restored" with SNAKE OIL. Engine only had about 3500 original hours when purchased lotta years ago. Did the smoke thing but ran and started well. What put me on the chemical fix rather than the "metallic replacement" was the fact that even on a cold day it would kick off in 15-30 seconds with no starting aid and it maintained stout oil pressure, both cold and hot using Rot T 15w-40. I didn't over dose it per se, but it took awhile for the chemical additives to do their work, but they did and saved me a lot of money and work.
Had the starting not been what it was, like my 3000D which I overhauled because it wouldn't start without help, it too would have had the metal changed out.
