: I am going to paint my IH tractor. CASE has : paint for $30 per gallon. CT(Central Tractor) Farm : and Country has IH colors at around $18 per gallon. : Which paint should I use and why? Bill, I just finished with a 48 Super A this month. I used an industrial enamel by Sterling 12 paints and was very pleased, particularly with the correctness of the color. If you think about it, the original paint used on these tractors was an industrial oil base enamel anyway. The cost is about $20 per gallon and IH red is a stock color. I used one gallon for the whole project and that was with using several coats on the sheet metal parts. Heres some unsolicited primer advice. Spend the money and get yourself a case of Sherwin-Williams 988 automotive primer. It comes in spray cans and is not only very handy but is also an acid base, self-etching primer and will hold forever to all of your metal surfaces. Dries in about 5 minutes too. A little expensive but you won't regret using it. Ask a local paint and body man about it. I got it at a Crow-Burlingame auto parts dealer. Sherwin-Williams has an 800 number to find local distributors for their auto finishes, which is where you will find this primer. Good luck with your project. Mike
