60-61 for chrysler, 62 option for GM 63 std, Ford as option in 63-64 standard in 65. Big advantage is in an alternator the output windings are stationary while the fld windings rotate.You only need to run the 2-3 amp fld load through the brushes instead of full output like a generator.
Also an alternator is a 3 phase generator that uses diodes to create a nice ripple free DC by using diodes to convert 3PH-AC to smooth DC.
