A 'straight truck' is all one unit (cab, load platform & power unit) like a dump truck, delivery van, etc. An over-the-road 'tractor' pulls a semi-trailer (no front axle, supported by the tractors' drive axle or axles) and can pull one or more behind that trailer if so equipped. The second and third trailers are, technically, trailers not semi-trailers as the converter (aka: dolly) allows the trailer to be have independent steering and stand-alone capability. A bob-tail is a tractor running without a trailer and, therefore, unloaded. A straight truck pulling a straight-tongue trailer on a pintle-hook is a b**h and pup ; a straight truck pulling a semi-trailer on a converter is a cow and calf. A tractor pulling a semi-trailer with a converter and another semi-trailer on the hook is called doubles, joints, wiggle-wagons, etc. Add a third trailer and you've got triples or trips (aka: a rubber-tired-railroad!). Roger? :-)
