: HOW DO YOU CHANGE A 6 VOLT TRACTOR TO A 12 VOLT TRACTOR?

I would get an alternator, that has a built in regulator, put a 200 ohm resistor 2watt min in the field current. and a idiot lite to suplly field current. then I would measure the current of the coil with the points closed and at 6 volts usually they draw about 2 amps. put a 2 ohm 25 watt resistor in series with the points or hot lead. if you have a solenoid to energize you starter you can do what they do and supply direct power to the coil during cranking bypassing the resistor. if you have a key start then at this time use the start terminal to give hot power. The reason for doing this if you want it to start easy you will have full high votage to the spark plugs. if you run on this you will burn your points or won't last long. have fun..
